On Monday I went to the first session of a 4 week class, Self Defense for Women. We started out with exercises in assertiveness (verbal skills, posture), but proceeded quickly to... frontal snap-kick, aiming at kneecaps while yelling as loud at the (imagined) foe as you possibly can! Wow! Intense, but, to use the tired cliché in lieu of a better word, "empowering" The instructor, very Santa Cruz, promised it might turn into the "awesomest" experience ever. Rad, girl, far out! Among other things she recommended a "dude nod" as an appropriate greeting of strangers you might be passing you on your way. No, I'm not making fun of her, she actually seems very competent, sweet and hard-assed at the same time!
