The Santa Cruz Film Festival is in full swing right now, and I almost missed it! Almost. I managed to catch the Saturday night show, "Sound of the Soul" about the Fez Festival of Sacred Music. Even a perennial cynic like Yours Truly has to admit that it's a very sweet little film. It's been playing smaller, but well respected festivals like Tribeca. I dragged my friend Heike along, she also liked it a lot. The Sufi groups were amazing, the musicians completely abandoning themselves to the music. A group of Berber women, and female musicians from Mauretania left the strongest impression on me. Fez looks incredible, magical! I was never interested in North Africa before this movie, but now I'm trying to figure out how I could visit a festival that coincides with finals at UCSC. One of these days...
THE MOVIE WILL PLAY AGAIN FRIDAY 7PM AT THE CAYUGA VAULT
